Leukemia post

So this week's been somewhat horrendous with a strange turn of events for a lot of people close to me. Thank God we still have our lives. But speaking of which, earlier today, Delta Phi, Kevin's fraternity, held a cleverly-named event, Shave a Brother to Save a Brother, in order to raise awareness and money for leukemia research. The brothers of the frat were displaying themselves being balded up in order to attract attention and have people donate money. In addition to this spectacle, the Cornell drumline also volunteered a few hours to play random beats, drumrolls, and cadences to help attract people. Safe to say, I could hear the drumming from Rand Hall when I went to go pick up a Dragon Day t-shirt, finally. At this, I decided to head over to Ho Plaza and check out this event. I mean, I did click on the 'Maybe Attending' option on the Facebook event.

So I headed down towards the noise and was quickly flooded by people asking to donate money for leukemia research. Not only do I care immensely about Kevin and wish for him to get better soon, but I also sadly lost someone in my family to leukemia a few years back. Thus, I gave some money and hung around watching guys having their hair shaven off. At this, I was beckoned by Sarah and a few other drumline members and bugged to play. I hesitated, and let them play their cadences on their own. They were decent. They then wanted to play A, and asked me to play because no one was sure of the bass part ... so I abliged. Needless to say, it was a train-wreck, though I did remember the part. Ah well, it definitely attracted attention.

I then decided to head back to work after bidding my friends goodbye and wishing them well for the rest of the day. Though I didn't do much, nor did I make that large a financial contribution, I felt much better about myself for helping rally and attract people to help raise money for a worthy cause. Now if I could only start some sort of activism against the FDA and its stupidity ... maybe one day.
